KORLE-BU TEACHING HOSPITAL DONATION
KORLEBU TEACHING HOSPITAL DONATION
There is an average of over 111,000 teen pregnancies per year. Of all the teen pregnancies during this period, over 21, 400 involved girls between the ages of 10 and 14. Teen pregnancy is associated with a high poverty rate, school drop-outs, which suggests negative consequences for the affected girls’ futures.
The KorleBu Teaching Hospital has a large number of young mothers who, after giving birth, are unable to pay their medical bills or adequately care for their babies. The threat of adolescent pregnancy appeared to be not only on the rise, but also needed to be critically examined.
The timely intervention of the Fridaus Mubarak Yussif Foundation (formerly known as the Salvest Baby Foundation) put smiles on the faces of some new mothers and lactating mothers.
About 400-500 mothers (those who had given birth and some who were lactating) had their medical bills paid in full, as well as baby food and cash given to some of them to ease their burden, because most of these young ladies (mostly between the ages of 12 and 16) could not find the men who placed them in a family situation.
The foundation also paid for a short period of counseling for these young mothers, which Alicia T. Bowens stated, “I hope that teen moms realize that their path to success still exists, and the only way to achieve it is to make the decision to go after it.” This is due to the fact that I was a young mother at the time. But it also means I have a little more time to love you.
Some people believe that if you have a child as a teenager, your life has ended, but the truth is that life has only just begun. Life did not take away their future; rather, it provided them with a new one.
Aside from the stigma of being a young mother, it is also associated with societal distress. The Fridaus Mubarak Yussif Foundation seeks to eliminate or reduce these problems among young mothers in accordance with SDGs 1, 2, 4, 5, and 10.
It follows that the foundation will not abdicate its responsibility to make the world a better place for all.
